When the term pain comes, it does not mean a single aspect, rather it is a multi-dimensional sensation that has both physical and mental reactions. It is unbearable at times and can be of short duration or a chronic one. Depending upon the type of injury or the cause behind it, certain temporary pains can be borne. But most of the chronic pains which are a cause of major illness, are of longer durations and are unbearable.
As pain is a multi-dimensional aspect, we cannot define it in a single term. Moreover, the tolerating capacity of pain varies from one individual to another. Often, it is a fact that athletes can endure more pain than normal people.
Several factors cause pain. The signal of pain reaches the brain and causes a sensation to the individual that aids in realizing it. The extent to which the person will feel pain depends on the ability of the brain to perceive the signals and network of the nociceptor communications.
